Anna Awe Akuson, a witness in the N3.9billion fraud trial involving Alex S. Badeh, former Chief of Air Staff, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja how a search conducted on a property allegedly belonging to defendant led to the recovery of $1million (One Million US Dollars) suspected to be proceeds of illicit deals.

Akuson, an operative of the EFCC, who testified as PW20, said that the money was found in a wardrobe at the upper apartment of the building located at No. 6 Ogun River Street, Off Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja.
Led in evidence by Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, counsel to the EFCC, Akuson said:
“I am a cameraman working with the EFCC. On February 24, 2016, I was assigned to go on a search with some operatives. The team leader told me the properties (we were to search) belong to Alex Badeh."
“On reaching the place, I started my recording from outside. In the master bedroom (upstairs), we found a travelling bag covered with a pillow-case in the wardrobe. We opened the travelling bag and found US dollars inside. We brought the bag down and the money was counted."
“After the search, we returned to the office and I copied the visual from my camera to a hard drive, after which I burned it to a DVD disc.”
Thereafter, the prosecution sought to tender the certificate of identification and the DVD disc of the recording, but its admissibility was strongly objected to by Badeh’s counsel, Akin Olujimi, SAN.
While relying on Section 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Olujimi argued, “I am for the first time seeing these documents in court now that the Registrar handed them over to me.
“There is no doubt that the prosecutor did not include these two documents in the information he filed before this court. That means we have been deprived of the rights of an accused person by the law. These two documents ought to have accompanied the information which the court has.”
Responding, Jacobs argued that the documents had been made available to the defence when the EFCC’s investigating officer (who testified as PW19) gave his evidence. However, he offered to avail the defence counsel copies of the documents.
Olujimi further applied that the next date of hearing, which is March 1, 2018, be vacated to enable the defence study the documents and prepare their defence.
Consequently, Justice Abang adjourned to March 14, 2018, for the continuation of trial.
Badeh is facing trial alongside Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, on a 10-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N3.9billion.
He, among other things, allegedly between January and December, 2013, used dollar equivalent of the sum of N1.4billion (One Billion, Four Hundred Million Naira) removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to purchase a mansion situated at No. 6, Ogun River Street, Off Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja.

I Almost Committed Suicide Last Year – Owen Gee

Popular Comedian and TV personality, Owen Gee, has opened up on his personal experience and battle with depression. The artiste revealed that he almost committed suicide in 2017 when her was faced by some challenges of life.
Owen Gee Said:
“I have had suicidal tendencies. Last year, I tried several things, but they did not work out. It was not because the ideas were bad, but the people I was working with just didn’t let them work out. Then anxiety and depression set in.
“It was then I realised that no drug could calm depression. There was hardly anyone I didn’t take. There was a time I was sleeping on drugs. There was a particular yellow tablet that, if I took it on Tuesday, on Wednesday I would only be prompted to barely wake up, eat and go back to sleep even before I finished eating. I would not wake up until Thursday.”
Owen Gee narrated the experience on Sunday during the unveiling of Live and not Die, an initiative aimed at stemming the tide of suicide in the country. With Kunle Pelemo as the convener, the programme held in Lagos encouraged several professionals to share their experiences while experts proffered solutions to depression.

Why I Rejected Peace Corps Bill – Buhari Reveals

Muhammadu Buhari, the president of Nigeria, has revealed why he refused to assent to the Peace corps bill.
Buhari noted that security concerns and financial burden of funding the organisation are his reasons for his action.
He stated this in a letter he sent to the House of Representatives which was read during plenary on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara.
To him, given the “scarce government resources”, funding the organisation will be a financial burden on the federal government.
He then noted that the organisation is a duplication of existing security agencies which are to undertake activities currently being performed by extant security and law enforcement agencies.
The National Assembly passed the Peace Corps Bill in 2017, after a prolonged battle involving the organisation and the nation’s security agencies.
The bill has been widely anticipated by many Nigerians, especially the youth who believe creation of the corps will reduce unemployment.

He revealed how he declined an opportunity to get a $25 million loan urgently needed to build the university’s infrastructure.
Speaking at the special service held at Garden of Victory, Ibadan, said he obeyed God’s divine instruction to stop the processes of obtaining the loan, only to get more than the needed funds from freewill donations and goodwill.
In apparent attestation to miraculous funding provision when needed, Oke said the university owed no one a dime in acquiring all assets of the recently licenced university.

Stay Away From UTME Centres – JAMB Warns Parents

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has asked the parents of candidates sitting the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to stay away from Computer-Based Centres.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, who said this on Monday in Abuja while monitoring the Mock UTME at the Kogo and Veritas University CBT centres, noted that some parents had formed the habit of hanging around the centres to engage in examination malpractice.
JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede said:
“We urge parents to keep away from CBT centres. We are preparing people for university education, but the parents come around too often. They want their children or their wards to pass at all costs.
“This practice is not helpful because they will not follow these candidates to the lecture rooms. Lecturers and others will start taking undue advantage of such parents because they are not mature.
They are not prepared for the task. I think parents should steer clear of all CBT centres and allow the children to grow.”
Oloyede urged the UTME candidates to desist from cheating during the examination, as the board would monitor all the computers to be used.
He said that all electronic devices, such as phones, headsets, flash drives and other items, such as wristwatches and calculators, remained banned.
Noting that the ban on special eyeglasses and pens also applied to supervisors and examiners, the registrar said,
“We urge the candidates to avoid any form of malpractice or shortcut to passing the examination. You are aware that we have banned some items from going into the examination halls, we have banned special glasses, wristwatches and many other things that we are aware our candidates use for illicit activities.
“As the candidates are getting cleverer, the board is getting wiser. We have done everything possible to avoid the issue of logging out.
When a student sees that the questions are difficult, he plays some pranks, remove some wires, pulls out the cable. Then there is a problem.
But we are going to monitor every system and if we discover that a candidate deliberately shut down a system, he will carry his cross.”

My Husband Employed Imam To Have Sex With Me For 3 Days – Wife

A divorce seeking wife has accused her husband of employing an Islamic preacher to have sex with her for money-making ritual purposes.
The woman, Musilimotu Olashuyi, 48, claimed that she introduced her husband, Gbenga Olashuyi, 55, to the unnamed Alfa because she used to frequent his mosque for prayers.
She said at some point, the Alfa noticed that Olashuyi’s business wasn’t going well, a situation that made her to introduce the Alfa to him.
However, Musilimotu said, the Alfa ended up committing adultery with her, allegedly on the instruction of her husband.
She made the allegations at the Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday. “It was with my husband’s consent that the Alfa slept with me for three days,’’ Musilimotu disclosed, while praying the court to dissolve the marriage.
She alleged that her husband had also conspired with the Alfa to use her for money ritual. She narrated to the court, “Actually, my husband got to know the Alfa through me because I always go to his mosque to pray.
“When he told me that my husband’s business was not moving fine, I brought him home to meet my husband.
“Before I knew what was happening, my husband had conspired with him to use me for money ritual. It was with my husband’s consent that the Alfa slept with me for three days.
“After the incident, I started getting sick and getting emaciated and I told the people around me what happened, which led to the arrest of the Alfa; but my husband ran away.
“Gbenga resurfaced at the station after the Alfa brought a remedy to cure me.” Musilimotu alleged further that Gbenga had refused to repay a loan she collected on his behalf in which she stood as the guarantor.
She said that Gbenga packed out her belonging from his house last October and stole N1m belonging to her.
Musilimotu pleaded with the court to terminate the union, saying that she was no longer in love with Gbenga after four years of marriage.
But Gbenga told the court that it was Musilimotu who lured him to buy the coffin for the money ritual to turn their fortunes around.
“My wife and her concubine persuaded me to buy a coffin for money ritual and she brought the Alfa to the house,” Gbenga said.
He added that the cleric had told him that God revealed to him that his business was collapsing and that he would make some rituals for him.
“I agreed to make the ritual because truly, my business was not moving well. Since that day, my wife has been coming home with the Alfa and with different objects and concoctions for me to drink and have my bath with.
“Later, Alfa asked me to bring N800,000 to buy some items for another ritual. He also told me to buy a casket for money ritual, which I will put in a separate room where nobody will enter except me.
“My wife begged me to comply with Alfa’s request, but I declined,” Gbenga claimed. The businessman accused his wife of infidelity, alleging that Alfa always made love to Musilimotu on their matrimonial bed.
He said he knew about the adulterous relationship when his wife had Alfa arrested and accused the cleric of using charms to rape her.
“The cleric told the police that he did not hypnotise my wife to rape her, saying that it was with her consent that he made love to her on those three occasions,” Gbenga said.
Gbenga confessed that he packed Musilimotu’s belongings out of his house. He also pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage, saying that he was no longer interested in the relationship.
The President of the court, Mr. Akin Akinniyi, however, advised the couple to maintain the peace while he adjourned the case until March 22 for judgment.

He’s vanished with my car and cash!

My boyfriend was evicted from his rented accommodation a few months back and I took him in. His things were still with the bailiffs, but he promised to offset the debts he said he owed, so that he could get his life back.

I recently bought a new car and he offered to help me sell the old one. He offered to take it to a dealer who was also a friend, but has disappeared with the car and a substantial amount of money from my wardrobe.

Some of his friends told me a girl has been urging him to move in with her and she lives in another town. He’s since changed his phone number and there is no way I could get an explanation off him. Anita, by e-mail.

Dear Anita,

What’s there to explain when it’s obvious what he’s done? You need to get some emotional support to get you through the shock and grief you feel. You also need to report your car stolen. This wouldn’t do you much good as you voluntarily handed it over to him, but it could help you recover the car. As for the money, that too is gone with the bad choice of a boyfriend you made. You have no way of knowing things would turn out this way. Count your losses and move on. Only remember that not all men are heartless opportunists.

Premier League! Arsenal vs Manchester City Clash At The Emirates On Thursday Might Be Called Off (See Why)

Thursday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City, could be postponed as the ‘Beast from the East’ has hit the Emirates Stadium.
The continuous snow has caused chaos, with schools closing and commuters affected due to the poor weather conditions.
City are taking the risk of travelling to London on Thursday, rather than staying overnight. Pep Guardiola’s men will take the train on Thursday morning, but heavy snow could affect their route.
The Premier League are likely to make a call on the fixture on Thursday morning and the conditions around the Emirates Stadium will also come into play.
If the surrounding areas of the ground are deemed to be dangerous, then the league may decide to call the fixture off.
Both sides met in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday, with City winning 3-0 at Wembley.

“We Spent The Last 2 Years Digging Nigeria Out Of Mess We Met” – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government has been salvaging Nigeria from her challenges since he assumed office.
The President said this on Tuesday while addressing a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
He urged leaders and members of the APC at the meeting, as well as Nigerians, to support the security agencies in tackling insecurity in the country.
Ahead of the forthcoming elections, President Buhari declared the APC as the party of the Nigerian people and asked its leaders and members to join forces towards achieving victory in the 2019 polls.
He further asked them to remind Nigerians of the past and thank them for supporting the APC in spite of the recent challenges in the country.
The President also appealed to the party faithful not to relax and support the presidential committee led by former governor Bola Tinubu, to reconcile all aggrieved members of the APC.
Read the President’s full remarks below:
I welcome all of you dear party members to this year’s NEC meeting.
Let me first record my appreciation to the party leadership in Abuja and the states for their stewardship of the party affairs. In particular, may I commend our Chairman, His Excellency Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, for steering the party from success to success.
From our resounding victory in 2015, to gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Edo and Ondo as well as much improved showing in Anambra Elections. APC is the party of government and now the party of the Nigerian people.
Mr Chairman, Members of NEC, great credit is due to our APC State Governors for stabilizing the country and to our Armed Forces, Police and other Security Agencies for stopping Boko Haram in its tracks and driving them from their bases.
No country, however well secured, can prevent isolated acts of terror as we have seen in America, Europe, Asia and here in Africa.
We must support our Security Agencies to safeguard our country so that the job of development as outlined in our Manifesto can proceed without too much interruption.
Mr Chairman, Members of the National Executive Committee, we cannot afford to fail to remind Nigerians where we came from in 2015. I am happy to report that slowly and steadily we have managed to stabilise the country and re-direct the ship of the State.
We have restored prudence to the management of public finances. Confidence in Nigeria has been restored.
On February 23rd, Nigeria issued 12-year and 20-year Eurobond on the international market, which were both oversubscribed.
The 12-year bond was within days subscribed by 332%. The 20-year bond was subscribed by 372%.
We have stabilised the Naira, increased our foreign reserves from US$20 billion to US$40 billion. Inflation rate is down. With considerably less resources available to the country, we have improved all indices towards a stronger economy.
Above all, we must pay tribute to the Nigerian people. They still massively support the government in spite of distractions from exponents of “business-as-usual”.
Nevertheless, I am not asking us to relax and take things easy. As we all know, elections are looming on the horizon, we must, therefore, get our act together.
Accordingly, I implore all members of the Party to give the Asiwaju Committee full cooperation to resolve differences existing amongst our members in the States affected. It is perhaps inevitable that there would be differences of opinion within the Party. If we didn’t have differences we wouldn’t be a genuinely democratic Party.
But we must not lose sight of our common purpose as a new Party to break the mould of Nigerian politics and take the country to new heights.
Therefore, we have asked our respected Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead this process of restoring order to the ranks, manage differences and strengthen the Party.
Mr Chairman, members of the National Executive Committee, I must acknowledge that the pace of government has not met the expectations of many within our Party. But few of us knew or appreciated the depth of the hole when we took office. Thus we spent the last two years digging the country out of the mess we met.
Furthermore, the stand-off between the Executive and the National Assembly slowed the process of government. We are working hard to resolve the differences so that the country can move forward.
Soon, primaries for; wards, local governments, state and centre will be due.
I urge all members to take account of the fact that APC has a history of conducting free and fair primaries whenever consensus about any position is not reached.
Regardless of thcomes of the primary processes, it is imperative that we all work together to ensure victory for our party.
Thank you

Trending housemate on the Big Brother Naija reality TV show, Bambam whose sex video with Teddy viral some days back is in the news again.

The lady who claims to be a family friend of Bambam, is identified as Fisayo Awonuga and in a series of tweets on twitter, revealed that they are angry at the lady for disgracing the family on national TV.
It has been widely reported that Bambam’s parents are elders in their church and she is also a choir member in the church.
Check the tweet below:-
So I wasn’t going to talk on this cos I do not want these blogs quoting me… Bamike’s family and mine go all the way back and I can confirm to you that her parents who were very upset yesterday have forgiven her.
However her father has summoned a meeting with The people at Multi-Choice and the Payporte boss to bring her back.
They told him she is an adult so it will habe to be voluntarily on her part. Teddy A’s mothers also reached out to her mother few hours ago, Begged Bamike’s mother on Bam’s behalf and on Teddy’s.
She says he will date her on the outside, she will make sure of this. They are willing to move forward as long as there is no sex again. They payporte boss promised Bam’s protection henceforth.
Her parents do not watch Big brother and have refused to watch the clips. So they don’t know what exactly is in. I maintain that Bambam is a very decent girl who shouldn’t be judged by this. Until she confirms there was penetration, there wasn’t.
Bam’s dad still wants her out so we will see if the protection promised will stop him from trying to get her out.
What do you all think about this?

Chinese condoms too small for Zimbabwean men

Worries over Chinese condoms in Zimbabwe

Health minister David Parirenyatwa has challenged local companies to consider manufacturing condoms, saying imported options aren’t quite up to task.
The minister was speaking at the recent launch of a new board for the Zimbabwe Private Sector HIV and Aids Wellness Coordinating Programme (ZPSHAWP) in Harare.
Condoms are a type of contraception that can both prevent pregnancy and protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Parirenyatwa said most of the condoms available in the country are imported from China, adding that some local men however found them not quite the right size.
“You know this region, the Southern African region, has the highest incidence of HIV and we are promoting the use of condoms; both males and females,” said the minister.
“The youths now have a particular condom that they like but we don’t manufacture them. We import condoms from China and some men complain that they are too small.
“We need to look at that; you need to able to have your own condoms. So, if you want to be a big businessman, then manufacture them (condoms) for the region.”
Some 109.4 million male condoms were distributed around Zimbabwe in 2016, representing 33 per individual for the year.
This makes Zimbabwe one of only five countries to meet or exceed the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNDP) regional mark of 30 male condoms per man per year.

Condoms are one of the key measures being used in the country by government and development partners in the fight against HIV infections.
Zimbabwe has the sixth highest HIV prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa at 13.5%, with 1.3 million people living with the virus in 2016.

How world’s largest brain tumour was removed in India

Doctors removing the brain tumour in India

(dpa/NAN)Surgeons in Mumbai, India, have removed a 1.87-kg brain tumour from a 31-year-old man, saying it to be the largest in the world.
The surgery lasted for seven hours at the Nair Hospital.
News of the procedure was made public recently after the hospital ensured the surgery was successful as the patient, Santlal Pal, had recovered, doctors at the facility told dpa Thursday.
“The tumour was so big, it appeared there was another head mounted on top of the patient’s head,” Srikanth Balasubramaniam, a senior surgeon who was part of the operating team said by phone from Mumbai.
“The surgery was challenging because of the sheer size of the tumour and because there were huge arteries going into the tumour.”
“We checked on records that say the previous record was of removing a 1.4-kg brain tumour, also in Mumbai,” he added.

The patient, before and after the surgery

The tumour had made Pal lose his vision and had also rendered him anaemic.
Doctors said he should gradually regain his sight and health.
Pal, a shopkeeper, had been living with the tumour for three years.
He had been turned away from three hospitals who said the tumour was inoperable.
The surgery was complicated as Pal was anaemic and needed 11 units of blood during the operation.
“Such tumours are rare and pose quite a challenge due to blood loss. Managing the patient requires a lot of planning, team skill and monitoring,” Balasubramaniam said.

Former Man United Manager Louis Van Gaal Blast Jose Mourinho Over Treatment Of Bastian Schweinsteiger

Louis van Gaal has criticised Jose Mourinho for the way he treated Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United.
The then Germany captain penned a three-year deal at Old Trafford in July 2015 as he was reunited with his former Bayern Munich boss Van Gaal.
However, that link ended after just a year as Van Gaal was sacked and replaced by Mourinho, who froze the experienced midfielder out to such an extent that United had to write him off as an asset in their club accounts.
Schweinsteiger made a brief return to the squad before joining Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire last March.
Mourinho admitted regret at the way he handled things, treatment that irked predecessor Van Gaal.
“Schweinsteiger was, of course, older but not too old,” the former United boss told Sport Bild.
“His body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League.
“Bayern sold him to us as fit player, but, in fact, physically he had reached the end.
“How Mourinho treated him after me, Schweini did not deserve this. But it explains the situation, how it stood with Schweinsteiger.
“It’s a shame because he is a player like Luis Enrique, Mark van Bommel or Philipp Lahm – the guys who always present on the pitch.”

APC Has Truly Failed Nigerians – Dino Melaye

The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Many of whom dino said, defied the odds to vote for Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s President in the 2015 general elections.
Melaye who spoke after he was conferred with the Legislator of the Year 2017 at the Daily Asset Newspaper maiden annual awards and lecture in Abuja, also charged Nigerians to conquer fear by rising up to ask critical questions on governance and service delivery.
Prefacing his remarks with his usual coinage;
“If you speak the truth, you die. If you lie, you die. I, Dino Melaye has decided to speak the truth and die,” the fiery Senator wowed the audience with his vitriolic against his own party, which he likened to the Public Complaint Commission, apparently due to its penchants for blaming past administrations for its inability to deliver on some of its electioneering campaign promises.
“The APC government has become Public Complaint Commission. I say this without fear or favour. We have more complains in the APC and even in the Presidency than service rendered. We cannot as a people continue like this.
“The President said two days ago we should all embrace peace but I want to say without fear or favour that there can be no peace without justice. There is hunger in the land, there is poverty in the land, and there is unemployment in the land.
A lot of decision has not been taken; yet we say we want peace. The primary objective of government is the security and welfare of the people. There is no security, there is no welfare,” he said.
According to the federal lawmaker, “Nigeria is not only sick presently but equally suffers from regretful congenital abnormality.
There is therefore a serious need for amelioration, palliation and correction. The question is: are you going to be part of that correction? I want to say that in an unjust society, silence is a crime, and every one of us here today, is the reason why (sic) Nigeria is sick.
“It is not about the leadership, it is the inability of the followership to check the leadership.
Today Nigerians have become indolent, we are suffering and smiling. We are not reactionary. We are not asking questions and that is why we are where we are.
“Democracy will continue to be government of the people by the people for the people but what we have today is greedocracy which is government of the greedy by the greedy and for the greedy, “he added.
While decrying the squalid social conditions in which the people live in, Melaye warned those in positions of authority not to forget that their failure to make the most of their offices in the interest of the people could turn out to hurt them, arguing that not even the rich would be immune from the disaster that looms in the horizon.
“2019 is around the corner again. Many of us are lackadaisical about the future. I delivered a lecture recently at the University of Lagos and some students from very wealthy homes, two of them said they didn’t care who the president of the country is and that it was none of their business because their parents were very successful. I said to them that when the poor have nothing to eat, they will start eating the rich.
“A time will come when it will be difficult to drive your expensive jeeps and cars on the streets. A time will come when it would be difficult to switch on your generator because everywhere around you is dark.
Will you be the only one having light? There was no kidnapping before, and kidnapping is seen as the redistribution of both ill-gotten and legitimate wealth.
People now take from the rich and they now appropriate to themselves,” he noted even as he urged the masses to be wary of the elites whom he accused of polarizing the rest of the populace.
“The elites have divided us using tribal sentiments. When you go to the hospital, there is a column for religion on your call card, a column for tribe and local government as if this will in any way facilitate your recovery. We have become too ethnic conscious.
I sponsored a bill that is about to go for a second reading. The bill is saying that we should abolish state of origin and in its place; we should have state of residence.
This is when we will have a true Nigeria when you will not need a Senator’s note to get job with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN or the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,” he added.
